New Video Creative Available!

Documenting part of his most recent trip to Nepal (last month), Earth Divas founder, Ed Edmundson, pulled out his cell phone and captured video of the hand-looming process at one of our woman-owned cottage producers. Another video shows the location of a new woman-run school being set up to teach women the skills needed to become tailors and effectively earn 5x their current Fair Trade wages! It’s a small, raw video…But guess what? It works! This is the type of transparency that cause-based shoppers want, and this video offers an intimate glimpse behind the scenes.

One of our affiliates, Save With Green, wrote up an article with these published videos, and agreed to let us tell everyone. We’re Setting up a New School to Train Artisans and Pay Them Even More!

Founder of Earth Divas, Ed Edmundson, just returned from a highly productive trip to Nepal, during which time he set up a new school that will pay and teach Nepalese women how to sew, thereby giving them the ability to work with other merchants in addition to Earth Divas. This is a tremendous step forward in helping Earth Divas artisans become fully independent and earn five times more than fair trade wages require. Soon, you will be able to see video from the trip with new creatives currently in the works!

First of all, we just wanted to say thanks again for affiliating with Earth Divas. 2011 was a good year, and we’re happy to report that we’ve been busy expanding our product line (see photos further below), developing a more user-friendly website and integrating even more affiliate program incentives – all of which we will continue to do so through 2012 and beyond. And of course, we’re still giving back 100% of Profits to the amazing women artisans who make the Earth Divas product line by hand!

New Website on the Way!

As your affiliate program manager, I truly appreciate your promotion efforts of EarthDivas.com. I also appreciate the fact that affiliate marketing is a two-way street. What good is all your hard work in sending us traffic, if we aren’t doing things on our end to help your traffic convert into sales?

That said, I am very pleased to report that EarthDivas.com is undergoing a complete website overhaul with a new design and layout that is sure to improve user-experience and increase our conversion rate. We are super excited and can’t wait to go live with the new site, which is just around the corner. Check out the homepage for a sneak peak! There will be no downtime, so rest assured all of your traffic sent to us will be properly tracked during the transition. I will keep you posted, so please stay tuned!


Latest Winter Seasonal Promotion!

As you may know, we are constantly hosting affiliate-only promotions to help your conversions. To that end, we have three different rotating promotional banners to choose from. When I say “rotating”, that means you never have to change them out. We do it for you. Simply upload any of these banners (available through your affiliate account), and when the promotion is set to expire, we will update new banners (the same look and dimensions) with a new promotion. For December, we are offering a 25% discount using the code WINTERDIVAS. While this coupon is set to expire December 31st, there is a good chance we will extend the offer. Hippie Bags for the Earth Divas Hippie Chic

While Free Trade is always relevant when referring to Earth Divas, today I want to talk about Hippies. You heard me right – that’s Hippie with a capital H. ‘Cause, guess what, my fellow fair traders? Earth Divas and hippies go hand-in-hand. Judging by all the hemp and natural fibers that go into the Earth Divas line of handbags, I suppose you could even say that Earth Divas is a maker of Hippie bags.

While not every Earth Divas handbag has the bohemian/hippie look (see photo to right and check out our Eco Modern line of handbags), Earth Divas does indeed carry a diverse selection of what is often described as “boho chic”. Ranging from hemp totes adorned with wooden peace signs to brightly colored, tie-dyed sling bags, there are more than enough options to satisfy even the most excessive of hippies (although I’m not sure if there is even such a thing as an excessive hippie).

Case in point is the website, HippieBags.net, which showcases (you guessed it) a large selection of Earth Divas hippy handbags. I mean, if you can build an entire website around Hippie Bags – not to mention the fact that this term alone gets some solid search traffic – it goes to show there are still plenty of hippies in the world. If you ask me, that’s what the world needs. The more hippies the better!

Another great example of an entire website built around the hippy lifestyle is HappyHippie.com. And wouldn’t you know it – Earth Divas is listed in their comprehensive eco shopping directory as well.

Granted, most people who are “hippies” probably don’t refer to themselves as hippies. In actuality, most hippies probably don’t even realize they are a hippie to begin with. I think I’m one of ‘em (although now that I’ve realized it, I suppose that excludes me, lol). This brings up a second point why Earth Divas caters to the hippie way. In addition to having the bohemian chic look, Earth Divas is an eco-friendly, Fair Trade certified business. Needless to say, most “hippies” are also pro-active stewards of the earth – “Tree Huggers”, if you will – and the fact that we only use sustainable, natural fibers like hemp and organic cotton, as well as recycled silk Sari’s, is just another reason why Earth Divas bags make for the perfect hippie bags.

So, fair traders and fellow hippies, get your peace signs out and keep this in mind as you are looking for fresh and inventive ways to promote the Earth Divas line.

Promoting Earth Divas Fair Trade Scarves This Fall Season

I hate to say it, but the fact remains that Summer is just about over, folks. I mean, some people are saying it’s already over. I’m not entirely sure when the calendar says the official last day of Summer is or was, but the bottom line is that I am in denial of Summer coming to an end, because last year’s winter in New York City is still fresh in my mind and bones.

Indeed, the only thing giving me solace (and warmth) right now is the thought of an Earth Divas fair trade scarf wrapped snuggly around my neck. Who would have thought I had so much fashion sense, eh? Granted, many of the Earth Divas line of fair trade scarves are probably not suited to the manly-men out there, which is not me and not our top demographic anyhow :) However, the truth of the matter is that these are some seriously fashionable scarves.

So, not only do I call upon all our eco-minded affiliates out there to promote Earth Divas fair trade scarves and benefit from some higher-than-average conversion rates leading up to and during the Fall months, I beseech all the fashion bloggers and clothing affiliates to do the same.

All of Earth Divas fair trade scarves are hand-made by highly talented artisans via our direct partnership with working women’s co-ops in Kathmandu. While it certainly helps to appreciate the durability and saturated colors that are hand-woven into our scarves by having one draped over your shoulders, using the high resolution scroll-over tool on our product images really does a great job giving them justice and helping seal the deal with potential buyers. The image below is a high res close up of the very same fair trade scarf you see over to the immediate right.

Earth Divas Datafeed Coming Your Way!

Being the affiliate program manager for Earth Divas, part of my job is to listen to affiliates, and basically, give them what they want! And what they (YOU) mainly wanted was an Earth Divas datafeed. Well, guess what fair traders? It’s on it’s way.

I know it’s been a long time coming, and I sincerely thank all of you who have waited patiently for our datafeed – And not just any datafeed. I’m talking about a datafeed with correct image links, sharp thumbnail photos, apt product descriptions, category and sub-categories, and most importantly, a BEST SELLER field.

Furthermore, I also pledge as your program manager, to keep our datafeed current, updating inventory values as often as needed. In short, you, the affiliate, need not worry about out-of-stock items or erroneous prices. Choose which products you would like to promote on targeted landing pages, upload the feed, and that’s it! Of course, from an SEO perspective, it also helps to get a little content on your pages (perhaps in a paragraph at the top or bottom of the page), as well as some back links.

The great thing about the datafeed is that all of your affiliate links will be automatically inserted for you. All you have to do is upload the feed to your site. Our affiliate networks provide easy-to-follow instructions on doing this. But as you and I both know, sometimes it’s not always that easy. Top affiliate marketer, Eric Nagel, has a great blog post on building a datafeed website. It’s priceless info!

Going With the Season – Earth Divas Fair Trade Backpacks

The one and only Earth Divas Hemp Patch Backpack

If you’re an affiliate and looking for ways to increase your conversions with Earth Divas, promoting seasonal items is a sure way to increase sales and commissions. Even to a new affiliate marketer, it shouldn’t take much convincing that seasonal items sell better immediately leading up to and during their specific season. Take our hemp and recycled jute rice bag backpacks, for instance. School is starting back up after summer break, and backpacks are in high demand right now.

If you have a landing page specifically built for backpacks, it’s inevitable that your traffic will increase for backpack-related search traffic, which in turn, will result in increased conversion rates through the Earth Divas affiliate program. Of course, you will up your conversions even more by putting up corresponding product images, via our datafeed or by simply copying and pasting the product images we have published on our fair trade backpacks page.

For some icing on the cake, include product information and a non-biased, objective review. If you just so happen to own one of our popular hemp backpacks for yourself, by all means, make the review personal! If you’re short of words, focus on the selling points of our fair trade backpacks: Strong and durable, colorful designs, sustainably made from hemp and recycled jute, and of course, fair trade certified! Oh, and if you’re not using the datafeed, don’t forget to create a custom link that will take your referrals to the actual product landing page. This will maximize your conversion rate no matter the season!

I cannot overestimate just how important it is to get with the season when executing your affiliate marketing campaigns. Ask any super affiliate and they will tell you their top-performing products are contingent on the season.

So, what are you waiting for? NOW is a great time to promote the Earth Divas line of fair trade certified backpacks. Now is also a great time to start building those landing pages for our top-selling Fall items, which include the Earth Divas line of Fall handbags and our handmade scarves.
